- Firm's History

The Professional Corporation WEISSBERG - GAETJENS - ZIEGENFEUTER was created in 1991 by Kenneth M. Weissberg, Kay Gaetjens and Gerd O. Ziegenfeuter, three lawyers who completed their studies of French Law together at the University of Nice in 1977 and have since developed their international activities in close cooperation.

- Our Structure

Sharing the ideals of those who presided over the implementation of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), we are dedicated to the development of trade and exchanges between the European Union, NAFTA, MERCOSUR and ASEAN.

Today's Europe, of which we have a well-founded appreciation, is rapidly decentralizing.

We therefore judge it expedient to maintain offices in France not only in Paris but also in Nice and Lyon.

Aware of the growing significance of national legislation and European Community regulations, we have put in place a well-equipped infrastructure through the European network CONSULEGIS which brings together more than 80 law firms throughout the world.

We are present in the United States through our offices in New York and Miami, as well as in Canada through our consultancy with the firm Amsterdam & Peroff in Toronto and the firm Cabinet McMillan Binch Mendelsohn in Montreal.

The quality and experience of our partners and associates allows us to offer the highest standards of efficiency in litigation and contractual matters between Europe, the United States, Canada, Argentina, Western Africa and Asia.

- Our Philosophy

Above and beyond the rules of ethics that govern the profession, we believe strongly in the following principles:

1. Efficiency and success in the handling of affairs requires close cooperation between attorney and client. This implies, on both parts, ready accessibility and a perfect flow of information. We have decided therefore to carefully select the cases we accept and devote ourselves completely to those brought on-board. Each attorn ey assigned a case handles the matter with the assistance of the entire firm, while always remaining personally in charge.

2. Business should be conducted with energy, at a rhythm that permits our clients to foresee with assurance the outcome of their case and to prepare themselves accordingly. We believe that our services are a business asset for our clients and that "time is of the essence."

3. We offer our services at reasonable fees, either on the basis of a pre-arranged fee agreement or on the basis of an hourly rate that takes into account:

- the experience and qualifications of the lawyers assigned to a case;
- the complexity of the issues;
- the sums at stake and the results obtained.

The firm is willing to provide details of costs and fees to be expected and, in each case, to outline policy and set guidelines.
